Excursions from Zagora Morocco

Day 1: ZAGORA – LAC MAIDER – RAMLIA – OUZINA DESERT

In the morning after breakfast we will pick you up in a comfortable 4×4 vehicle and drive to the Ouzina desert. We will drive along the track of the Paris Dakar Rally, crossing a Reg (desert of stones and hamadas), which looks like a real lunar landscape with immense extensions of dark stones until you lose sight of them, which gives a more mineral touch to the desert. We will see several Berber villages (they are original nomads living under authentic nomad tents, but now they are villages living in adobe houses. We cross the sand river, Oued Ghris, until we reach the village of Ramlia, where we will stop to visit the village and its Oasis, and have a Berber tea in a typical village cafeteria. In the afternoon we will go to the desert of Ouzina, where we will spend the night in Riad Hotel.

Day 2: OUZINA – OUZINA

In the morning after breakfast, we will go by track again to see the authentic nomads of the desert, who live in the area of Ouzina. Then we will go to the Barite mines, to see the mine and how they work in a traditional way (the barite is a mineral that is extracted there in the mine and taken to Europe, where they make crystal). Then we return to the village of Ouzina where we will have lunch at a Berber family’s house (Berber Pizza and Tea), and where we can also get a Henna tattoo, by a person specialised in this art, you have to give a tip to the person of the henna. You can take a walk in the village of Ouzina and its Oasis, and in the afternoon we will go to the dunes of Ouzina to enjoy a magical sunset in this wild and virgin desert, and enjoy a total silence.

Day 3: OUZINA – JDAID – TAOUZ – MERZOUGA

In the morning, after a leisurely breakfast, we will go by track to the village of Jdaid and the wonderful rock carvings. Then we will continue our route to Taouz, where the old track of the Paris Dakar Rally ends, and we will go to the village of Khamlia, where the Gnawa live, musicians of sub-Saharan origin (Black Africa), who will delight us with their music and dances, while we enjoy a mint tea (Berber whisky). You can buy a CD of their music, worth 10 €, or tip them a minimum of 5 €. In the afternoon we arrive in Merzouga, we transfer you to your accommodation or to the bus station and the end of our 3 days and 2 nights excursion from Zagora to the desert of Merzouga via the desert of Ouzina.
